Athletics
Overview and Important Information
Burncoat Middle School offers many athletic opportunities for its students.
This page includes information on what is available, how one is eligible and can participate, schedules, contacts, and more. Along with Middle School sports and intramural activities, 8th grade students are also eligible to try out for the lowest level offered of certain high school sports.
All paperwork, including a current physical exam form, must be submitted prior to participation. Athletic Forms are available via ParentSquare.
All participants are responsible for their own transportation home after practices.
Academic / Attendance Eligibility
Student athletes must meet all of the following requirements to be eligible to participate in school athletics:
Receive a 65 or higher in at least 4 of your traditional year-long courses in the most recent quarter for which report cards were published.
Have no more than 10 absences for the year, and no more than 5 in an athletic season. Note that missing half a school day (for example, being dismissed before 10:30 am) counts as a full absence.
Required Paperwork & Physical Exam
Every student athlete must complete and submit the following three pieces of paperwork on time: The Athletic Department Permission Form, Extra-Curricular and Field Trip Health Safety Plan, and the MIAA Chemical Health Rule Agreement, and you must review the CDC "Heads Up" Concussion Fact-Sheet and Substance Abuse Prevention Facts and Tips sheet.
Documentation of a sports physical exam is also required. The requirements for this exam can also be found on the Worcester Public Schools' Athletics Department webpage. This can be completed by your own doctor or the school nurse.
Make sure you start the paperwork right away so you're aware of who you need to see and what you need to do and can turn it in on time.
