Dear Worcester Public Schools Community,
One of our goals this year is to consider the realignment of some school boundaries, meaning the geographic areas of the city where children are assigned to specific schools within the Worcester Public Schools (WPS), to create a better pathway for students' experiences from preschool through grade 12.
Over the next year, you will periodically receive communication about the School Boundary and Quadrant Alignment Project and opportunities to provide your feedback.
The project seeks to:
Reduce the student population in schools that are over capacity by at least 90%
Increase the student population at schools that are under-enrolled
Ensure school programming aligns with each school’s building capacity, along with student and community needs
Improve school feeder patterns
Improve citywide/magnet school designations to best reflect the needs of the community
On Monday, March 23, from 6:00-7:30 PM, at South High Community School, 170 Apricot Street, a community forum will be held to gather feedback from parents/caregivers and community members about the ongoing realignment project. A team from Dillinger Research and Applied Data, a non-profit research and data analysis organization, will facilitate the forum. Language translation services and childcare will be provided.
Multiple scenarios will be recommended and shared with the School Committee and community this June. This summer and fall, the scenarios will be drafted and shared with the community and Worcester School Committee for additional public feedback. Information about those opportunities will be shared when available, and posted on the project webpage and events calendar of the WPS website.
The current goal is to provide a final presentation to the Worcester School Committee in November 2026, and communicate to parents/caregivers about any changes by December 2026. Our goal is not to disrupt or remove students in schools where they are already attending. On the contrary, we are embarking upon this important project to ensure all students have improved opportunities and access.
We are sharing this information to ensure that anyone who wants to be involved in providing feedback about the School Boundary and Quadrant Alignment Project has the opportunity to do so. Please be on the lookout for additional information in the coming months. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Brian E. Allen
Superintendent
Worcester Public Schools
