Dr. Marie Morse Named Deputy Superintendent of Worcester Public Schools, Sara Consalvo Named Chief Financial and Operations Officer
Appointments Approved by Worcester School Committee
WORCESTER – Wednesday, June 18, 2025 – Incoming Worcester Public Schools Superintendent Brian Allen announced today that Marie Morse, Ed.D., will become Deputy Superintendent and Sara Consalvo will become Chief Financial and Operations Officer effective July 1, when Allen himself officially begins in his role.
The appointment of Dr. Morse, who currently serves as Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, and Consalvo, who currently serves as Administrative Director of Finance, were approved by the Worcester School Committee on Wednesday, June 18.
"Dr. Morse and Ms. Consalvo have extensive experience in senior leadership roles within Worcester Public Schools, and this experience will continue to profoundly benefit the students, staff, and families we serve," Allen said. "Their combined strengths in strategic planning, attention to detail, knowledge of Worcester, and unwavering dedication to our students are precisely what's needed to build upon the district's positive trajectory. They will be essential to carrying out our plan of ‘Vision to Action.’”
In her role as Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Morse will become the second-in-command leader of WPS, which serves nearly 25,000 students in grades preschool through 12 and employs about 5,000 staff. She will continue her current leadership of the departments of Teaching and Learning, Research and Accountability, College and Career Readiness, Early Childhood, Innovation, Multilingual Education, Positive Youth Development, Athletics, Nursing, Alternative Programs, and Special Education.
Dr. Morse has served WPS since 1988 as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, quadrant manager, and most recently as Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, a role she has held since 2022.
“It is an honor to be named Deputy Superintendent of the Worcester Public Schools, a district that is deeply ingrained in my life — as a student, teacher, parent, administrator, and senior leader,” Dr. Morse said. “I share Mr. Allen’s goals of building upon our successes of the last few years — moving deeper into our ‘Vision of a Learner’ and strategic plan work, while expanding upon culturally responsive practices and engagement with families. Above all, what drives my focus daily is ensuring we are meeting the needs of the children, families and staff we serve.”
Earlier in her career, Dr. Morse, a lifelong resident of Worcester, was a principal of schools that made significant progress under her leadership, including the Clark Street Community School, which was then a nominee for the national Blue Ribbon Award, and the Union Hill School, which exited Level 4 status and was viewed as a turnaround model. In September 2023, the Union Hill outdoor basketball court was renamed in her honor.
Sara Consalvo has worked for WPS since 2004, serving as the district’s first Budget Analyst, and later becoming Director of Compensation, Budget Director, and Administrative Director of Finance. She has served on the board of directors for the Massachusetts Association of School Business Officials.
Consalvo is responsible for all aspects of the district’s budget of nearly $600 million. She oversees the development and management of the budget to ensure transparency and compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations to maximize resources to directly benefit students and staff. In her expanded role, she will also oversee the operational departments of Facilities Management, Information Technology, Nutrition, Safety, and Transportation.
“I am deeply honored to move into an expanded leadership role of Chief Financial and Operations Officer,” Consalvo said. “Worcester Public Schools continues to be nationally recognized for its transparent and thorough approach to the budgeting process to have a positive impact on students, along with continuously-improving operations — from safety improvements to bringing transportation in-house — making it a leader statewide and nationally. I understand the profound responsibility of leading this work and look forward to delivering results for our students, families, and staff.”
