Principals in the Mentorship Group pose for a photo

WORCESTER – Saturday, January 17, 2026 – As part of a long-term recruitment and retention strategy for staff in the Worcester Public Schools (WPS), several principals are taking part in a peer mentoring program. A meeting was held on Friday, January 16, at Quinsigamond Elementary School.

School principals with years of experience are meeting with principals who are in less than two years in the position as part of their professional development.

Being a principal is a job with lots of responsibilities and requires skills of how to lead a large group of people. Principals are responsible for operating a building, managing staff, speaking with parents and community members, liaising with district staff, and, above all, ensuring rigorous teaching and learning is taking place to benefit the students we serve.

At the meeting on Friday led by Dr. Yeu Kue, Assistant Superintendent of Personnel, Equity, and Engagement and former principal, the group discussed having honest conversations with school staff about the importance of attendance.

They also met with Sara Consalvo, Chief Finance and Operations Officer, about the annual school budgeting process. The cohort meets throughout the year and will discuss a range of topics.

The group of principals are a cross section of schools with varying size, grades, and focus areas.
