WORCESTER – Wednesday, June 4, 2025 – The Worcester Public Schools and the Worcester Department of Transportation and Mobility received an honorable mention award June 2 by Safe Routes to Schools at its annual awards ceremony at the Massachusetts State House — honoring contributions to strengthen, promote and improve students walking, biking and rolling to and from school.
The WPS Office of School Safety and the City’s Department of Transportation and Mobility were recognized for creating the Worcester Safe Routes to School Task Force, a group to promote engagement with the goals of the Safe Routes to School program.
This year, Safe Routes to School is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a group dedicated to student safety through the implement of its six E’s or tenets which are: educate, encourage, engage, evaluation, equity, and engineering to make walking, biking, or rolling to and from school safer for all students across the Commonwealth.
Also at this awards event, several Worcester Public Schools received certificates and mention for engagement with Safe Routes to School activities and events:
