Dear Worcester Technical High School Community,

While we had a great celebration at the DCU Center, I’m reaching out regarding the incredible disappointment regarding last night’s graduation and the inability of many people to attend the ceremony.

Each senior was given 6 tickets because that would fill the graduation to capacity. It quickly became clear that we had an exceptional number of counterfeit tickets created and this led to a number of people gaining access to the graduation ceremony. This resulted in hundreds of people trying to attend the graduation in excess of the DCU capacity and many parents and families with legitimate tickets that were not able to see their student graduate. This is a heartbreaking situation as graduation is a milestone event in a student’s life and families work so hard to have their children reach this important point in their journeys.

We are aware of a few students/families that produced counterfeit tickets and these actions led to such a regrettable situation. My hope in reflection is that those responsible now realize the impact they had on our school community and for those parents and families that can never get this moment back.

I also want to express my support and thanks to the school staff who were placed in an untenable situation not of their making. Under the circumstances, the staff did their very best to assist with an unforeseen situation.

Our school administration along with the administration of the Worcester Public Schools will continue to investigate this incident and work to ensure it does not happen again at Worcester Tech or any other high school graduation ceremony.

Thankfully, the Class of 2025 commencement was filmed by Worcester Educational Access Television. The video will be available on WEA-TV’s YouTube channel after 2 PM today. Additionally, you can download a file of the video.

The unfortunate events of last night do not take away from the many accomplishments and positive spirit of the Class of 2025. We are proud of our 361 graduates and all they will accomplish in college, career, and life.

Sincerely,
Drew Weymouth
Principal
