Regular Meeting Information
Most regular Worcester School Committee meetings are held every other Thursday at 5:30 PM* in the Esther Howland South Chamber of Worcester City Hall, 455 Main St., Worcester. Meeting dates and times may vary; please verify the date, time, and location on the meeting agenda.
Regular meetings are open to the general public. The meetings are broadcast live by Worcester Educational Access Television (WEA-TV) on its website and television channel (Spectrum 191 in Worcester). Executive Sessions are not open to the public and are generally held at 5:00 PM prior to the regular meeting.
Please note: Executive Sessions sometimes run late, delaying the start of the regular meeting.

Special Committee
Role of the Worcester School Committee
The Worcester School Committee is the legislative and policy-making body charged with supervision of the Worcester Public School System. Under Chapter 71, Section 37 of the Massachusetts General Laws, it
"shall have the power to select and to terminate the superintendent, shall review and approve budgets for public education in the district and shall establish educational goals and policies for the schools in the district consistent with the requirements of law and statewide goals and standards established by the Massachusetts Board of Education."
It also conducts collective bargaining with all employee organizations.
Under Chapter 71, Section 59 of the Massachusetts General Laws, the School Committee may, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, also establish and appoint the following positions:
Assistant or Associate Superintendent(s)
School Business Administrator
Administrator of Special Education
School Physician
Registered Nurses
Legal Counsel
The School Committee may approve or disapprove the hiring of said positions.
Under Chapter 76, Section 1 of the Massachusetts General Laws, it
“shall approve a private school when satisfied that the instruction in all the studies required by law equals in thoroughness and efficiency, and in the progress made therein, that in the public schools in the same city.”
