About the Superintendent

Building on a three-decade career in the Worcester Public Schools and City of Worcester, Brian Allen becomes the district's Superintendent effective July 1, 2025. A Worcester native and graduate of South High Community School, Allen most recently served as Deputy Superintendent.

Mr. Allen's focus is to sharpen Tier 1 instruction to drive meaningful improvements in student learning, and fully embracing the concept of "Vision to Action," leading educators to go deeper into the "Vision of a Learner" framework to ensure all students develop future-ready skills. He remains focused on connecting all district work to the five-year strategic plan, "Our Promise to the Future," with an emphasis on culture and climate, family and community engagement, acquiring and retaining top talent, modernizing facilities, and prioritizing equitable resources and educational programming.

“I am honored and humbled to be selected as the next Superintendent of the Worcester Public Schools,” Allen said. “As someone who grew up here and has spent my entire career in Worcester, I will lead the district forward through our continued commitment to our values outlined in the strategic plan. I care deeply about the outcomes of our students, staff and families, and will take a collaborative approach to continue our shared success.”

In Mr. Allen's previous role as Deputy Superintendent, he oversaw the district's Finance and Operations Division, which included developing the annual budget, which stood at $586 million for 2025-26. Mr. Allen's three biggest accomplishments in WPS are the success of bringing transportation in-house, receiving a national award 12 years in a row for district budgeting, and for being a statewide leader in the successful effort to advocate for funding through the Student Opportunity Act.

Mr. Allen has worked for the City of Worcester since 1994, beginning as a Budget Analyst for the City. He later worked as a Budget Manager for Worcester Vocational High School. In 1999, he became Assistant Business Manager for Worcester Public Schools, before moving onto Business Manager in 2002, Chief Financial Officer in 2006, Chief Finance and Operations Officer in 2009, and Deputy Superintendent in 2022.

Mr. Allen has taught graduate-level school finance and operations courses at Worcester State University as an adjunct faculty member since 2002. He is the Past President of the Massachusetts Association of School Business Officials. He has been recognized for his contributions to school finance and operations by several state and national associations.  He has a Master of Public Administration degree from Suffolk University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Clark University.
