Two students engage in STEAM Week activities.

Students at Jacob Hiatt Magnet School enjoyed a day of hands-on science on the first day of STEM Week!

In partnership with Dr. Mary T. Pickering, Director of Public Engagement with Science and Co-founder of UMass Chan Medical School's ScienceLIVE, grades K–5 students explored interactive activities that brought science to life in exciting new ways.

Zippin' Through STEAM Week at Challenge & Reach

Students work on a STEAM project.

During a recent STEAM week activity, eighth graders at Challenge & Reach Academy explored Newton’s Laws by making zip lines. The challenge was to get a student-made mini basket of sand to the other side without spilling.

Students explored how the height of the towers affected acceleration, force, collision, and other Newtonian concepts. Teacher of English Language Learners, Shelley Hamm, worked with the entire eighth grade team to facilitate this multidisciplinary project for the Forces & Interactions science unit.
