😀Friendly Faces of Sullivan Middle School
📚The Dr. Arthur F. Sullivan Middle School serves 940 scholars in grades 6-8, including 150 in the Goddard Scholars Academy.
🎒Sullivan’s core values are: respectful, responsible and ready to learn!
Located next door to South High Community School, Sullivan Middle scholars can envision themselves moving onto high school or higher education through strong academic standards, fun, and enrichment.
On a recent school day, students were learning how to play bongo drums as part of a performing arts lesson, while others were actively participating in gym class as different languages and cultures were embraced by one another.
Administrators greeted and posed for photos with students as part of their daily practice of building a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

We’re proud to introduce Melina Fana Aquino as this year’s Valedictorian! 🎉
Melina is a poet, coder, and community builder whose accomplishments speak volumes. She was featured in Worcester MA Magazine for her powerful poetry, awarded the Harvard University Book Prize, and honored with the Hispanic Achievement and Celebrating Excellence (HACE) Award for academic excellence. ✍️📚🏅
Her most impressive work? Founding Girls Computer Science LearnUp, a Dell Technologies–sponsored program that empowers young women in STEM. Melina also completed a 100-hour remote internship leading a research team for the Guild of St. Agnes and serves as a Girls Who Code CS Ambassador. 💻💪
This fall, Melina will attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), and we can’t wait to see where her path leads.

We’re proud to introduce Funbi Fatoke as this year’s Valedictorian! 🎉
Funbi exemplifies hard work, dedication, and a strong commitment to both academic and personal growth. With plans to study Biology at UMass Amherst and pursue a career in anesthesiology, she pairs academic excellence with a deep passion for healthcare and service.
An Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar and recipient of numerous honors—including the Worcester County Superintendent Award, Massachusetts Student Achievement Award, and African American National Recognition Award—Funbi has consistently earned First Honors throughout her time at Tech.
Born in Nigeria, Funbi’s journey reflects resilience and determination. She’s embraced one of the school’s most rigorous academic paths while excelling in indoor and outdoor track, serving as Vice President of the Caring with Compassion Club, and contributing to groups like the Bible Club and Black Student Union—all while mentoring peers.
She’s also completed clinical training as a Nurse Assistant at the Jewish Health Center, interned with the United Way of Central MA and Worcester’s Community Advisory Board, and gained professional experience in finance—all before graduation!

This Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women from Worcester and across the nation who served in the military and gave their lives for our freedom. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, began in 1868 following the Civil War to honor the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the war. 🕊️🌹
Let us take a moment to reflect on their courage and express our gratitude.
